Specialised Engineering

Our Specialised Engineering arm provides BBR a competitive advantage as we can offer our clients innovative, sophisticated and sound construction engineering solutions. This arises from the fact that we have access to the latest engineering and construction technology and engineering methods as well as techniques developed locally for the regional markets through the BBR Network.

The principal activities under the Specialised Engineering division consists of piling and foundation systems, post-tensioning, stay cable systems, heavy lifting, bridge design and construction and maintenance repair and retrofitting. These activities are mainly undertaken through BBR’ s subsidiaries, BBR Construction Systems Pte Ltd and BBR Piling Pte Ltd in Singapore, and BBR Construction Systems (M) Sdn Bhd in Malaysia.

To strengthen the Group’s expertise in bored piling specialist works, BBR Piling Pte. Ltd. was established in Singapore in 2010.

Apart from BBR Construction Systems (M) Sdn Bhd in Malaysia, which was incorporated in 1994, other overseas companies incorporated to carry out Specialised Engineering activities are BBR Philippines Corporation in the Philippines in 1998, and Siam-BBR Co., Ltd in Thailand in 2003.

In September 2014, the Group strengthened its Specialised Engineering capabilities with the acquisition of a 75% shareholding interest in Moderna Homes Pte. Ltd., which specialises in pre-fabricated pre-finished volumetric modular construction (“PPVC”). The PPVC system is a light-weight steel modular system where room-sized units complete with internal finishes, fixtures and fittings are pre-fabricated in factories, and are then transported to construction sites for installation and assembly to form modular apartments.

Singapore Engineering & Construction Pte. Ltd. (“SEC”) was incorporated in 1970 and has a paid up capital of $15 million and a turnover of more than S$200 million, as well as a workforce of more than 500 people. SEC was integrated into the BBR Group in 2001.

Since its inception, SEC has successfully completed numerous building, civil engineering, piling, power station, toll road, conservation, restoration, upgrading and overseas projects. SEC has also been involved in the joint ventures with foreign companies such as Campenon Bernard and Egis Projects SA (French registered company), Doosan Construction & Engineering Co. Ltd (Korean registered company), Tekken Corporation, Union Construction Co. Ltd and Takenaka Corporation (Japanese registered company), PT Bukaka Teknik Utama and PT Bukaka Kujang Prima (Indonesian registered company) and Sinohydro Corporation (Chinese registered company).

Green Technology

Green Technology

The principal activities under the Green Technology division consist of system integration and distribution of renewable energy, and supply, installation and leasing of solar panels and grid connected systems.

In recent years, there has been a growing trend in promoting and driving Singapore’s construction industry towards building more environmentally-friendly buildings. This is an initiative that is supported by local and international bodies within the construction industry to promote green sustainability in the built environment as well as greater environmental awareness.

In 2013, the Group established the Green Technology division and incorporated a wholly-owned subsidiary, BBR Greentech Pte. Ltd., to carry out system integration and distribution of renewable energy. The Group has bidded for projects to supply, install and lease solar panels and grid connected systems for statutory boards and private sector customers. The Group is gradually implementing green technology as part of its total solutions package for potential project bids to tap into the rising demand for more green buildings.

Our strategic foray into the Accommodation Solutions business marks an important evolution in its diversified portfolio, aligning with the Group’s vision to broaden and stabilise its revenue streams beyond existing capabilities.

In 2024, we expanded into purpose-built accommodation, notably through the acquisition of a significant stake of a foreign workers’ dormitory with bed capacity of up to 6,000 residents.

Building on its successful entry into the accommodation sector, the Group is well-positioned to broaden its scope beyond workforce housing into complementary accommodation segments.
